Last but not least I made the rear cover.
Well it's now Mid May 2018 and I have made a start on the connecting rod. I had hoped to finish this part over the weekend but I needed to order a 9/16 reamer for the split bearings.
So while waiting I decided to make a start on the tender.
Well it's bank holiday and in among other jobs I thought I would paint the horn plates so they can bake in the sun. This is one job that can ruin a model and is not something I enjoy or profess to be good at.
It's now November 2018 so I thought I would give an update on progress thus far. In the main I have been pushing on with the tender in order to bring it to the stage ready for paint. When making the straps I made a mistake and tried to bend these cold, what could go wrong! as it turns out, quite a bit and it snapped...
While the weather was nice I attempted to make a door ring after purchasing some delft clay. This made an immediate improvement on my castings and I can recommend it.
It's been a while since an update so here are a few pictures of what's been happening!
After making lots and lots of piston rings I'm still not happy with them. I might need to use an O ring!
The nipple on the steam chest is to allow me to connect an airline
Bypass made and safety valves just require balls fitting and calibrating.
Water Pump in the process of manufacture. I decided to design this to mount on the horn plate rather than the boiler.
The steering worm was an Ebay find that works perfectly!
I'm not so keen on the steering chain though! Another Ebay purchase!
