FULL SIZE VERSION
3 1/2 INCH GAUGE
For some reason I can not edit my home page so if anyone knows how to do this please let me know. Anyway, we'll start here. I have managed to run this side of the engine on air successfully, so we need to spin it round and complete the other side. The more observant of you will notice the boiler is not tapered like her big sister. I plan to get over this by fudging the cleading sheet.
CLOSE UP OF VALVE GEAR
This is one side of the engine complete. I found that the connecting rod came quite close to the slide bars at mid stroke. I think it will be ok though.
CONNECTING ROD
First the connecting rod was machined and the fluting added with a woodruff cutter. The bearings have been made out of bronze and have been pressed into the rod.
CAB SIDE
Digressing slightly, well a lot as I tend to jump around and make bits and pieces as the materials come to hand or as the mood takes. This is one of the cab sides in work. The window frames were soft soldered into place.

A very nice looking engine.
I am at the very early stages of a build. I have digitised LBSC'S design but find the valve travel is insufficient. I redrew to Martin Evans formula and get different proportions for the combination lever and expansion link backset.
Is your engine built to LBSC’S design and does it run well. Regards Bruno

Hi Bruno,
Many thanks for the feedback and nice to hear of another engine in build. My engine is basically built to the drawings although I have added more detail here and there and runs fine on air. The biggest headache I had was the cab believe it or not and ended up making two! I will add more pictures soon.
Kind regards Steve.
